Set-Up Instructions Bonnie Bone Marrow BiopsyTM Skills Trainer is ready to use right out of the box. Bonnie Bone Marrow BiopsyTM Skills Trainer can be oriented in either prone or side-lying positions to accommodate different set-ups. For side-lying positions, the Bonnie Trainer must be attached to the Tilt Base.

Set-Up Instructions – Prone Position 1. Palpate to localize either the anterior of posterior iliac crest as well as the spinous process, to ensure proper needle placement. 2. Prior to performing biopsy skills training, be sure to apply Vaseline to the entire length of your biopsy needle. Failure to do so will reduce the useful life of the puncture site skin insert. To access to posterior iliac crest, identify the appropriate location for needle insertion by following your institution’s protocol. Puncture the skin through the puncture site skin insert. Set-Up Instructions – Side Lying Position 1. Slide the Bonnie trainer into the 10-degree angled slot on the tilt base. The Bonnie Bone Marrow BiopsyTM Skills Trainer is notched on both left and right sides to allow for orienting the trainer for side-lying positions. 2. Insert the two black thumbscrews at the bottom of the Bonnie trainer to properly secure the tilt base. Finger tighten the thumbscrews.

Set-Up Instructions – Side Lying Position, Continued 3. The Bonnie trainer and tilt base are designed to have a close fit. Press down firmly to seat both pieces together. When properly positioned the Bonnie trainer with tilt base should be at a 10-degree tilt off vertical.

Care & Maintenance Instructions 1. To access the underlying pelvic bone structure and posterior iliac crest bone inserts, lift the puncture site skin insert to separate it from the body skin shell. 2. Next remove the body skin shell by pulling the side in a outward direction as shown, to separate it from the pelvic bone structure. Lift the body skin shell away from the pelvic bone structure and set aside.

Care & Maintenance Instructions, Continued Push to insert bone Pull to remove bone 3. The posterior iliac crest bone inserts are individually labeled with “L” for left and “R” for right. These can easily be removed by pulling out and inserted by pushing into place per the pictured instructions. Helpful Hints • Lubricate the entire length of the biopsy needle with Vaseline to increase the life of the puncture site skin insert. Cleaning Instructions 1. Skills Trainer can be easily disassembled for cleaning. Wipe off any residual Vaseline on the skin surface before cleaning the trainer. 2. All surfaces can be cleaned using a mild soap and water or wiped with alcohol. 3. Dry the trainer with a non-linting towel. 4. Once the surface of the trainer is completely dry, apply supplied baby powder to remove any stickiness and wipe off any excess powder before placing trainer in the carrying case.
