The University College Hospital 42 Bedpan Washers (BPW’s). C-Diff outbreak in 2011 but stayed with BPW’s. Evaluation machine & temperature tests in 2013. Presented Cost-In-Use model (key factor for KDM in procurement). Installed 70 machines across all hospital wards & replaced all. “This system is a best practice method of infection prevention” John Swanson – Senior IC nurse.

The National University Hospital� The IC & nursing teams were evaluating solutions as part of their approach to managing outbreaks. They agreed to trial the system across 4 wards, short stay-cardiothoracic ICU-Oncology & EMD. Fully converted their facility from BPWs and installed 54 Vernacare pulp disposal units with an extensive range of single-use utensils. Nurses perceived that patients regarded disposable receptacles as more hygienic and less likely to cause a health care–associated infection.

ST. OLAVS HOSP TAL UNIVERSITETSSYKEHUSET I TRONDHEIM The hospital was going through a refurbishment and were looking for ways to improve infection prevention as well as to improve efficiency and working conditions for the staff. -1 There are currently 8 buildings/sub-hospitals ^ |— within St. Olav’s and they all use the Vernacare I system. Fully converted their facility from BPWs and installed 96 Vernacare pulp disposal units with an extensive range of single-use utensils. Nurses perceived that they spend less time in dirty utility rooms and more time with the patients providing better care.

Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital 10 bedpan washers (aged 10 years plus). Infection Control led replacement to macerators. Complete conversion in 2017, from 10 bedpan washers to 10 Vernacare macerators. The Estates team had concerns at first, but now they are the best advocates of the system.

Hospital Dr. Exequiel González A mixture between BPW and hand washing was used previously. Nursing staff were in favour of the Vernacare system, and they helped our distributor Enertak, to convince management to make the switch. Complete conversion in October 2017, with 13 Vernacare disposal units. Promptly after the conversion, both nursing staff and management saw an improvement in patient and hospital personnel quality of life.
