VIRapid® HYDATIDOSIS is an immunochromatographic test designed for the qualitative detection of total antibodies against E. granulosus in serum and plasma samples. It offers rapid detection with visual results available in 30 minutes and includes all necessary reagents in the kit. The test is based on a specific and highly purified antigen, ensuring excellent performance with 94.7% sensitivity and 99.5% specificity.
Hydatidosis, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is prevalent worldwide, particularly in regions with extensive cattle raising. High incidence areas include North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Europe, as well as countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Australia.
The disease primarily affects the liver, lungs, and other organs, forming slow-growing cysts. While imaging techniques like ultrasound and X-ray are used for diagnosis, serological assays are essential for confirmation. The VIRapid® HYDATIDOSIS test provides a reliable serological confirmation tool, beneficial for laboratories in endemic areas.
The test demonstrates high sensitivity (94.7%) and specificity (99.5%), as validated by testing 282 samples using ELISA and IHA methods. The test procedure involves adding 30 µl of the sample and two drops of developer solution, with results readable in 30 minutes.
