Claw Sternum Fixaon Features Overview The Claw Sternum Plate is an interlocking plate system designed to achieve compression across the sternotomy after open heart surgery. Two opposing ‘claws’ are seated in the intercostal spaces and instrumentation is used to engage the two components whilst reducing and compressing the sternotomy. Description The Waston Claw Sternum Plate is used to close the sternum after a sternotomy. Specifically designed to be a fast, efficient closure system, the Claw Sternum Plate achieves rigid fixation without bone penetration. The novel design ensures the forces...

INDICATIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS WARNINGS Intended Use The Sternum Fixation System is intended for internal fixation of sternum after median sternotomy for adult. At least four Sternum Fixation Systems should be used when only the Sternum Fixation System is used for fixation. If four Sternum Fixation System were not able be used at the same time for the deformity of the sternum, the sternum ligation and / or the sternum plate should be used together for fixation. Indications Internal fixation of sternum after median sternotomy for adult. Contraindications The contraindication of the Sternum...

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE GUIDE Measure Sternum Hook the sternum width gauge into the sides of sternum at the intercostal spaces. L1 Measure left sternum to get L1 Measure right sternum to get L2 Select Plate Choose the Sternal Claw plate size according to the total measurement. Total measurement L=L1+L2 Attach Plate Attach each side of the Sternal Claw Plate to the corresponding parts of the sternal compressor. Tighten locking screws by hand. Slot head screwdriver can be used to tighten if necessary. Close Sternum Hook each half of the Sternal Claw Plate into the opposing intercostal spaces and align...

Rotate the knob of the sternal compressor to achieve compression across the sternotomy. As the sternum comes together, the two halves of the Claw Plate will insert into one another. * Two implants/compressors can be used simultaneously to spread the load whilst incrementally closing sternum. Lock Plate Once compression is achieved across the sternotomy, use the slot head screwdriver to lock. Rotate the cam of the Sternal Claw Plate 90° to lock. CAUTION:The rotation should not be exceed to be less than 90° Until the compressor can be taken off easily. Remove Device Release the Sternal Claw Plate....

Emergency re-opening If the Sternal Claw Plate needs to be removed. Use the slot head screw driver to rotate the cam of plate to 90º and unlock. If this fails to open the plate, use the cutting clamp by fixing it into the rectangular slot on the Sternal Claw Plate and cutting the outer part of the claw. As shown in Figure 1, the use range of Sternal Claw Fixation System is from mark (the direction pointed) of the outer claw to the bottom of the inner edge of outer claw. When installation, put top of the inner claw as the base, the top of the inner claw should be within the use range. Beyond use...

Q&A 1、How to select the specification? The width of the first intercostal sternum varies greatly, and the sternum plate type should be determined after accurate measurement. The rest can be selected according to visual inspection and the effect of installing the sternum plate between the adjacent ribs according to experience. After subtracting 5mm from the sum of the widths of both sides, the lower limit value of the interval is the required model. 2、How to choose the placement position? In the case of sternum plates only, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th intercostal installation...
